Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This policy describes how the iOS app “What’s That Sound? Animals” (the “App”) handles personal information. The App is made primarily for children aged 2 to 6.

2. Information We Collect — None

The App collects no personal information of any kind. Specifically, it does not obtain any of the following:

• name, date of birth, age, gender
• email address, telephone number, postal address
• photos, video, audio recordings, drawings or anything else created by a child
• location data
• device identifiers (including IDFA and IDFV), advertising identifiers or any other persistent identifier
• usage data, number of plays, records of right and wrong answers, session length or any other behavioural log
• contacts, calendar, health data or any other data held on the device

The App requests no permission for the camera, microphone, location, photo library or contacts. No permission prompt is shown at any point.

3. Network Access — None

The App has no networking capability. Every animal sound, every spoken word and every illustration ships inside the App itself and is never fetched from a server. The App therefore behaves identically in airplane mode, from start to finish. There is no data that could be transmitted anywhere.

4. On-Device Storage — None

The App stores no progress, no score, no settings and no other data on the device. It uses no localStorage, no cookies and no database. When the App is closed, that session leaves nothing behind, and the next launch always starts from the beginning.

5. Third Parties and Third-Party Services

The App contains no third-party advertising SDK, no third-party analytics SDK, no third-party crash-reporting SDK, no social network integration and no tracking technology. There is consequently no user data shared with any third party.

The App is distributed through Apple Inc.’s App Store. Aggregate statistics such as download counts are compiled by Apple; that processing takes place in the relationship between Apple and the user under Apple’s own privacy policy, and the developer does not receive information that identifies any individual user.

6. Retention, Deletion and Withdrawal of Consent

Because the App neither collects nor stores user data, no retention period arises and there is no data to delete. No consent to provide data is obtained, so there is no consent to withdraw.

The only thing present on the device in connection with the App is the App itself (its program code and bundled assets). To remove it completely, delete the App using the normal iOS procedure. There is nothing else to request the deletion of.

Because the developer holds no user data at all, there is likewise no data that could be the subject of an access, rectification or erasure request. Questions about this may be sent to the contact address in section 11.

7. Children’s Privacy (COPPA / GDPR / UK Children’s Code)

• U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA): the App collects no personal information from children under 13, so no “collection” as defined by COPPA takes place and no verifiable parental consent is ever required.
• Article 8 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): the App processes no personal data, so the child-consent conditions for information society services do not arise.
• UK ICO Children’s code (Age Appropriate Design Code): we consider the requirements on data minimisation, privacy by default, no profiling and no nudge techniques to be met, both because the App handles no data and because it contains no advertising, no purchases, no external links and no leaderboards or other engagement hooks.
• Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information: as no personal information is handled, the duties to specify and notify a purpose of use do not arise in practice.

8. In-App Purchases, Advertising and External Links

The App has no in-app purchases and shows no advertising. It contains no links to external websites, social networks or other apps. A child using it alone cannot navigate out of it.

9. Security

Because the App obtains, stores and transmits no user data, there is no user data that could be exposed. We regard this as the strongest safeguard available.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Any change material to whether data is collected will also be noted in the App’s release notes on the App Store.
